Transportation in the water cycle refers to the movement of water around the planet.

Water moves underground through the soil, eventually returning to the ocean.

It moves as surface water, (rivers and runoff) returning to the ocean.

It moves in the air as water vapor, which is invisible. When the air cools, the water vapor changes into tiny water droplets that form fog, mist and clouds (the process of condensation). If the clouds form from evaporation over the ocean, move over land and rain on the land, the water has been transported from the ocean to the land, completing the Water Cycle.

Transportation also refers to the movement of water in a plant, from the roots to the leaves. When the water has carried nutrients up to all parts of the plant (as sap) some of the water goes out of the leaves into the air (called transpiration).

This may seem like a small amount of water being moved from the soil to the atmosphere, but a large area of vegetation, such as the Amazon Rainforest, can create its own local Water Cycle of evaporation and rainfall by doing this.
