Of course, the main reason was money. But he may have thought that a story about shipwrecks would be topical, if the play was written when we think it was, since the tale of some people shipwrecked on Bermuda was the latest buzz. That begs the question a bit, though, because one of the main reasons people think Shakespeare wrote this play around 1611 was that the latest buzz was about the shipwreck on Bermuda.
