I am pretty sure Joseph Stalin had sadistic personality disorder. He is a man who killed more people than Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam and Genghis combined; and that's the low estimate. And unlike Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam or Genghis, he didn't have a motive to kill all those people. Sounds sadistic to me.

How can someone develope sadistic personality disorder?

Sadism is generally more of a psychosexual dysfuntion than a personality disorder; a sadist experiences sexual arousal from the pain, degradation, and humiliation of others. Many serial rapists/killers exhibit symptoms of sexual sadism, which often begins in childhood as zoosadism (torturing of animals), and later on the individual acts out these behaviors on other people. A history of abuse, particulary sexual abuse, in childhood is often thought to play a role in the development of sadistic behavior, although genetic factors have also been proposed.
