The year reads the same when rotated 180 degrees or when it is upside-down.

This only works if the numbers are handwritten.

When typed, the "1" wouldn't be the same because of the line at the bottom of the "1" so technically nothing about them are probably going to be the same.

Nothing "happened" in 1961 that will not happen again until 6009. What the question refers to is a property of the numbers (or rather our method of writing numbers) used to represent those two years, and it is true about those numbers now, not just during the years in question.

So, what is true about the numbers 1961 and 6009, but no integers in between them? That is the correct way to ask that question. And the answer is, when written in a certain style, you can rotate the image of the Arabic representation of these two numbers 180 degrees, and the resulting image will look the same as the original. Note that, contrary to the first answer, simply turning these images upside down will NOT result in an identical image, because the 9s and the 6s will just look like upside down 9s and 6s. Only a 180-degree rotation will result in an identical image.

And even that is not really true. In most typed fonts, a 1 will have a horizontal bar across the bottom and a short diagonal line coming down and to the left from the topmost point (just look at the 1s shown here - they have those). If you rotate that 180 degrees, the bar will be at the top and the diagonal line will start at the bottom and go up and to the right. That's not a 1. That's not even a character, let alone a digit. However, if the number is WRITTEN, most people write a 1 as simply a straight vertical line, which would be identical if rotated 180 degrees. However, if it's written, most people write a 9 in such a way that rotating it 180 degrees will not look like a 6. Most people write a 9 by drawing a small circle up high, then extending a diagonal straight line from the left-most edge of the circle (or sometimes slightly above that point) down and slightly to the left. But a handwritten 6 has no straight lines.

So, whether you're talking about typed numbers or handwritten numbers, in the vast majority of cases, it is NOT true that the images of the Arabic numbers 1961 and 6009 appear identical when rotated 180 degrees. So the answer to the question is:

When typed in a very unusual font (if it even exists - I've never seen it), or written in a very rare handwriting style (again, I've never seen such a style), the images of the Arabic representations of the numbers representing the years 1961 and 6009 can be rotated 180 degrees and their appearances will be identical to their appearances before rotation.

And when you have to go that far and put such unlikely conditions on it, this really is not noteworthy at all.

What happened in 1961 that will not happen again for over 4000 years?

The year 1961 was rotationally symmetric. This means that if you turned 1961 upside down (180 degrees), it would still say "1961".The next time this will occur is in the year 6009.It only works with the following numbers:1 rotates to 16 rotates to 98 rotates to 89 rotates to 60 rotates to 0
