When Leafpaw, Mistyfoot, and other cats were trapped in the Twoleg cages, some of the cats from ThunderClan staged a rescue mission. The last cat to be rescued was Brightheart. Graystripe saved her, but the van door shut on him before he could jump out. This scene is shown in great detail in 'The Lost Warrior' (Manga #1)

After Silverstream died giving birth to their kits, Graystripe took them to ThunderClan to be raised. He stayed with ThunderClan and became a loyal warrior, eventually becoming the deputy of ThunderClan.

at first he just stayed in Thunderclan camp and mourned but a few days later, when he went to take the kits to riverclan, he decided that he had to go with him and stay with his kits. So he stayed in riverclan for a little while until there was a battle over the sunning rocks and greystripe by telling him to get out of the way of Leapordstar, who was about to leap on him and probably kill him. Leapordstar got mad and exelled him from riverclan and he went back to thunderclan.
