The freeze thaw cycle of weathering is important in breaking up the crystal structures in the rock. [The rock itself is of course already frozen.] There are several mechanisms in action in the Freeze Thaw cycle.

Water in the rock's crevices will expand when freezing, thus loosening the tiny crystals. This will allow a greater quantity of water to be held in the crack next wet period, and so on.

The presence of water in the crack will be in contact with fresh minerals on the face of the rock's crystals, and this may dissolve some of the mineral, or it may add water of crystallization. In either case, the resultant product will be of greater volume than previously. Thus enlarging the cracks.

In addition, some of the dissolved salts will dry out on the hanging surface of an rock, and will cause a cavity to develop. Commonly these tend towards hollow spheres, with an obvious salt crust.

And there is a gross effect of spallation. This happens when the rock undergoes thermal expansion or shrinking due to temperature changes. The spalls will first fall off exposed corners of the rock, and in the long run, the rock may become quite rounded. On the ground around the rock mass, these fallen spalls will occur as plates of up to a metre in size, and of slightly curved or shell like form.

What is the bald eagle eaten by?

Eagles are predators, and feed on other animals. While many animals will eat eggs, there are not animals that deliberately stalk and kill eagles. If an eagle is injured or sick, there are many small predators that would eat an eagle that could not defend itself, such as weasels, raccoons, fox, possums, wolverines, etc.

How did George Washington contribute?

George Washington is revered by many Americans as a great hero in America's revolutionary war. Washington was a Virginian boy who was considered a great fighter in the Continental (rebel) Army. He worked hard for freedom. He was appointed to a general...later on after the people who are called "founding fathers" saw how he fought and truly cared about the cause. He lead the rebal army into perilous battles, he persisted them to go on, George was clever man when it came to the British Army's position and getting there to attack or capture a fort. George had good stratigies. He did not bother training his men since he thought that it was unecessary. Men in the army were always leaving when their term of service ended. Several were not loyal but who would want to stay in the harsh conditions that a colonial rebel solider had to endure-hunger, lack of training, weahter conditions, sickness, and being tired. George was considered a leader. He did lead the Americans to the freedom that they wanted from us (Britain). He was the first president as well. He has his own holiday in the United States.

How does the wind effect the weather?

If you are speaking about the United Kingdom (which is where I live), --The north wind(s), also known as the Polar Continental (Northeast) or the Polar Maritime (Northwest) bring snow and chills. --The tropical continental (from the southeast) brings warm, relatively dry weather, as it comes from Africa. --The tropical maritime is the most common wind as is wet and cool. Check http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/education/secondary/students/airmasses.html#trop_mari for more information. If you live in America...can't help you. -_-
