When you drop Mentos into Diet Coke, the bottle will become a geyser, shooting soda up to 20 feet high. This happens because the Mentos' surface catches the small carbon dioxide bubbles and connects them into much larger ones. When the bubbles break off the candy's surface, they burst and cause the soda to shoot out of the bottle.

NOTE: This should not be done indoors.

Mentos candies added to a fresh bottle of soda will cause the soda to violently fizz (effervesce), to the point of creating a fountain of frothing soda. This will normally send 50% to 60% of the soda out of the bottle, creating a huge mess.

Why this happens: The surface of the Mentos candy is covered in small holes. These small holes provide a greatly increased surface area from which the dissolved carbon dioxide in the soda can rapidly come out of solution. This normally creates a foamy explosion similar to what occurs if a bottle is shaken before opening.

The gas particles in mentos will make coke explode.

Whoever put that ^ didn't read the question.

Nothing happens. I'm sure if you leave them in long enough they'll eventually deteriorate, but nothing like what happens when you put mentos in coke, as is mentioned above.

nothing, unless it is carbonated water. If it's carbonated water it will create a reaction much like a soda rocket. Because the ridges of the mentos; there are so many areas that the carbonated water can react with. If it is distilled water or milk nothing will happen.
