What if four semifinalist get a medal in Olympics sporting event?

In Olympics, any event or category of any sports or categor that are being played, only the top 3 will receive a medal. An athlete coming in fourth, or even very close to being in the top 3 will not secure them the medal, and only the worthy top 3 will receive the medals.

1st will receive Gold medal;

2nd will receive Silver medal;

3rd will receive Bronze medal

However this is not the case in Boxing, inwhich double bronzes are given out after 2 bronze matches.

There are also instances where a tie occurs when the officials are unable to differentiate the rankings between the athletes concerned.

Below explains the IOC ranking format if there are double silver medallist, there would not be any bronze medallist and also double bronze medallist.

Eg 1. Swimming 200m Men's Freestyle where China and South Korean both won the Silver Medal.

***No Bronze medal was given out as the next in line would be considered 4th placing according to IOC ranking format.

Eg 2. Track Cycling Men's Kerin where New Zealand and Netherlands both won the Bronze Medal

***In this case the next in line would be ranked 5th placing according to IOC ranking format.

The same refers to double Gold medallist. Therefore the next in line would be bronze medallist (no Silver medal given) as the athlete would be considered 3rd placing. No example for this as there were no such cases in recent Olympic games.
