Being a type 1 diabetic for a year or so, I usually don't do anything when my sugar is above 70. My doctor says that normal sugar is between 80-120, but to only eat something if it gets below 60. If you are a new diabetic, you may feel really weird when it's 73 because you're used to such high sugar. That's how it was for me. Try waiting a half hour, and checking it again. If it has dropped to below 60, I would correct it by eating 15 carbohydrates. Check the labels on food to find carbohydrate amounts.
That being said, everyone is different and you should ask your endocrinologist about any situations involving blood sugar.
