He was inspired by his son who was in grade 2. When it was his sons bedtime, Rick would read the Greek mythology myths that he taught at his middle school to his son. When he had told all of the/all of his myths, his son asked for Rick to tell him/make more good myths, and new ones. The myths he started telling his son were about the character Percy Jackson. Rick's son suggested that he should make the Percy Jackson myths into a book, and Rick listened.
