Becoming a Christian is not a childs game that one can forget if it becomes too difficult or costly. No, it is eternally severe as once you accept total repentance, baptism, the laying on of hands and promise to follow Jesus' words and ways, you become 'begotten' by the Holy Spirit into the God family - first as an 'embryo-stage' then onwards through study and works for God like a human development just this time it is spiritual).

Should the person reject this great calling, and go back to their old sinful ways, they commit the 'unpardonable or unforgiveable' sin which has no other covering for. In effect they await their eternal fate - the 2nd death in the Lake of Fire:

Hebrews 6:4-6New King James Version (NKJV)

4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.

The Christian called in their lifetimes (firstfruits) must always remember this is by God's grace - a one-time calling and receiving of God's Holy Spirit to guide them:

Ephesians 2:8-10New King James Version (NKJV)

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
