Construction Scheduling is a process of breaking down a project into smaller activities and the durations of time each will take, then organizing them into an order of actions to be taken to finish the job. Each activity's beginning depends on the completion of a previous activity or event (i.e. you cannot pour a concrete footing/foundation without digging the hole first).
The main goal is to determine a total duration of the project, which equals a "critical path" of events that determine the total duration. However, one could argue that the main goal is to determine the series of events or plan of actions to finish the project.
Some activities will have some "Float" time in which the duration of said activity is shorter than the amount of time between its predecessor's end time and its successor's start as determined by a critical path.
No two schedulers or companies will have the same schedule for a given project, it all depends on what a company or individual is familiar with and what they believe their crews are capable of. Having said that, they will probably be 85-95% similar because of the logic of the construction project.
