Drilling holes into tiles requires the use of either a drill-bit or for larger holes a core or holesaw.
For small holes to cater for rawl plugs for fixures and fittings you will need either a 6mm drill or an 8mm drill. Imperial size is 1/4 inch.
Small spade drills are OK for standard soft ceramic tiles.
For hard porclain tiles you need diamond tipped drills.
Larger holes require the use of a core or holesaw. Standard pipework like water pipes waste, shower heads require hole sizes of 16mm 30mm and 40mm. Imperial sizes is 1inch 1.5 inch and 2inch.
