The group of seven was a group of Canadian painters from the 1920s and 1930s who came to the forefront of Canadian art for their well known landscape works, highly influenced by impressionism.
The group of seven had two main points: one was the beauty of the Canadian landscape, but the other was the support of Canadian art. It seems likely they would have still been famous even if they were painting famous Canadians rather than landscapes.
Landscapes, mostly, especially of the Northern part of Canada.
The group of seven painted landscapes to show the rest of the world what they saw Canada as. It was their mission to create a new Canadian identity by painting Canada's beautiful landscapes.
People enjoy watching pretty landscapes in nature. It has therefore been common to paint them.
