The word 'medium' is used to talk about the hard drive or optical drive. A 'write error' means that when the computer tried to write some data to the disk, it got an error message from the drive saying that the data was not written to the disk successfully.
In either case, there is a serious problem that must be found in order to use the medium. If it is a hard drive, use Disk Utility to check and repair the disk. If it is an optical drive, use a different writable disk.
It is looking for a storage medium to write the backup information to, so there must be a CD/DVD drive with a writable disc in it before the program is started.
I prefer one of the following:I am getting an error. We are getting an error.I'm getting an error. We're getting an error.

Write down the entire error message. Also, list what you were doing before you got the error. Include the program you were working in.
The bit error rate is a standard transmission-error rate of a medium such as copper wire, coaxial cable, or fiber-optic cable. Coaxial cables have a low error rate that is generally 1 in 1 billion bps.

It means that your disc has a bad error so it cannot read and write files. if your error is on the dvd-rw, you can erase it. if your error is on the dvd-r then you cannot erase it and you will have to bin the disc.
my pen drive is not format some error message so in screen "write protected"
When undertaking a write operation the read/write head usually has to use more power during a write operation as this operation must effect a change of state in the storage medium. On the read operation the read/write head merely has to detect this changed state.
