∙ 8y agoThere are actually two species of tuatara, both in the genus Sphenodon: the Northern tuatara (Sphenodon guntheri) and the Brothers Island tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus). These species are the only members of the order Rhynchocephalia, one of the four orders of reptiles. The other orders are Crocodilia (crocodiles, alligators, and gharials), Testudines (turtles and tortoises), and Squamata (lizards and snakes).
