The pie chart communicates the figures much clearer than just a set of numbers. Pie charts visually represent the figures as if they were pieces in a pie; the larger the figure the larger the piece. These charts are often effective when presenting a budget.
Pie charts are visually appealing and look clean and professional. They are also eye-catching.

Depending on the type of chart, different things can represent data. Pie slices on pie charts, bars on bar charts and columns on column charts for example.
You can use data typed into a spreadsheet to make a chart automatically. Depending on how you want to display your data, in pie chart form, as a line graph, or a series of bar graphs, you can select the data to chart, click the chart icon, then choose the chart type to best represent your data visually.

The fact that the data are from a representative sample is irrelevant. What matters is the nature of the data that you have and the message that you want to convey to your viewers. If the data are qualitative then a bar or pie chart are probably the most appropriate. If they are quantitative, then any type of chart may be appropriate. It depends on the variables. If there are several observations on each member of the sample, then a stacked bar chart may be the right thing.
