Operation Rose is mentioned all the way through series 2 and in the final episode of series 2 we find out that its the gold bullion job of 1982 (although it is completely fictional it never really happened) the story is that DCI Carnegie orchestrated Operation Rose and told SuperMac and Carnegie is in league with Martin Summers from the future. The Operation is for robbers to rob the bullion truck on King Douglas Lane (also a fictional street in London), while the robbers are robbing the truck, the bent coppers rush in with DCI Carnegie as the leader, and steal the gold for themselves.
Luckily Gene Hunt and the team get tipped of eventually by Alex Drake who finally makes the connections and they arrest Carnegie and Summers is killed
