A persecution complex, or persecutory delusion, is the belief that people are out to get you. People who have this delusion feel that there is a plot against them. Someone (sometimes it is the government, sometimes it is a specific person) is trying to harm or kill them. Another word for this would be paranoid.
Individuals with persecutory delusional disorder are plagued by feelings of paranoia and an irrational yet unshakable belief that someone is plotting against them, or out to harm them.

Delusional disorder is characterized by a tanaciously held belief with no accompanying hallucinations. This is the single distinction as some sub-types of schizophrenia are very symptomatically similar to delusional disorder. The delusion can be erotic, jealous, grandiose, persecutory, or somatic and attempts to question it are met confrontationally.
