Physics is more than a part of the physical sciences, it is the most basic of all sciences. It's about the nature of basic things such as motion, forces, energy, matter, heat, sound, light, and the composition of atoms. Physics supports chemistry, which in turn supports Biology. You can understand other sciences much better if you first understand physics.

Copernicus - Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) formulated his theory of the moving earth. He assumed that the earth and the other planets move around the sun but in that time, nobody believed him, as they preferred to think that the earth was at the center of the universe.

Aristotle - the foremost Greek scientist, studied motion and divided it into two types: natural motion and violent motion. Aristotle proclaimed circular motion was natural for the heavens, for he saw both circular motion and the heavens as without beginning or end.

Galileo - Supported Copernicus in his theory. One of Galileo's great contributions to physics was demolishing the notion that a force is necessary to keep an object moving. Galileo argued that only when friction is present = as it usually is - is a force needed to keep an object moving. He later proved many more things.

Newton - Came up with Newton's 1st, 2nd and 3rd law.

Newton's 1st Law - Every object continues in a state of rest, or of motion in a straight line at constant speed, unless it is compelled to change that state by forces exerted upon it.

Newton's 2nd Law - The acceleration produced by a net force on an object is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, is in the same direction as the net force, and is inversely proportional to the mass of the object.

Newton's 3rd Law - Whenever one object exerts a force on a second object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite force on the first object.

Why do scientists use scientific names instead of common ones give an example?

Scientists use scientific names (binomial nomenclature) to avoid confusion caused by different common names for the same species. For example, the scientific name for the domestic dog is Canis lupus familiaris, which clearly indicates its relationship to the wolf (Canis lupus) and distinguishes it from other species with similar common names.
