Two things:
1. Comet tails do not follow along behind the comet. Comet tails always point away from the Sun.
2. Comets are not rocky, they are icy.
it is a comet it flies through outer space!!
Meteorites are chunks of space rock that fell on earth. They are pieces of rock that can be found on the Earth surface but come from outer space. Asteroids are rocks that travel thru open space, meaning they are pieces of other planets or just boulders flying around in space. If an asteroid (small one) hits earth and is then found by someone then it is an meteorite. A comet is a boulder made of mostly ice that travels thru space at hi speeds and has a defined hyperbola around a star. So Rocks form space on earth are meteorites rocks in space flying around are asteroids and ice traveling realy fast (as a boulder) around a star is a comet.
It could be an asteroid or comet.
A nucleus first forms of rocks and frozen gases. Solar radiation or solar wind acts on this nucleus to form a comet
A meteor is defined a body that can be observed burning as it enter s the Earth's atmosphere. They are often referred to as shooting stars. A meteoroid is a small particle from an asteroid or comet that orbits the Sun.

As it goes through space, the sun (or other stars) melt it. This creates a big tail behind the comet.
A comet because a comet is an icy ball traveling in space and when it passes the sun it begins to outgas and that is the tail we usually see.

a comet/meteorite
Yes. Meteor showers are debris - dust and small pebbles - that have been shed by a comet during its thousands or millions of passes through the solar system. It is literally the leftovers of the comet's tail . It extends probably all the way around the comet's orbital path. When the Earth passes through the comet's path, we are bombarded with these dust, sand and pebble sized rocks, which burn up very prettily as they fall through the atmosphere.
Because they are to small to be considered planets.
A piece of an asteroid is still an asteroid, until you get down to pretty small pieces. At some point, when it's too small to see from far away, they are called "meteoroids" or just "space rocks". There isn't any formal hierarchy of sizes.

No. But NASA did send a space probe to crash into a comet.
