Demerol and Oxycodone are both shcedule II Drugs, but there is a difference in strength between the two. Demerol is usually used as a post operative pain medication while the patient is in the hospital, and it is also used when someone returns home after a serious operation. You have to keep in mind that even though there are so many pain medications avilable for a Dr. to prescribe, specific medications work better on certain conditions better than others.
Oxycodone is a more commonly used medication by Dr's. It is used for moderate to severe pain. For example, it may be used after having your wisdom teeth removed, or if you break a bone or hurt your back, ect..
An opiate for severe pain would either be OxyContin, Dilaudid or Opana but, most likely the last two since OxyContin has a huge stigma around it.
For releif of moderate to severe long term pain or pain in the terminally ill.
T3 is for severe but short duration pain. Tramadol is for long extended use control of pain. I prefer the slow release Oxycontin 10mg and adjust as needed 1 or 2 a day twice daily.
There really is no "standard" dosage for OxyContin. It depends on severity of pain, body weight, and whether or not you have taken pain killers in the past. For a 180lb person with severe pain who has never taken painkillers before, they would probably start on OxyContin 20mg tabs.

Oxycontin is used for the treatment of Moderate to severe pain.
80 mg Oxycontin is by far stronger than 10mg of vicodin(hydrocodone). I am not sure the exact times stronger but I had almost like a foot reconstruction surgery and took 10/650 vicodin and the 650 is 650mg of Tylenol and it barely touched the pain and then was given a 80mg of Oxycontin and it took away my pain for about 4-5 hours, but the point is 80 mg of Oxycontin is way stronger than 10mg of vicodin.
Both of these drugs are used to handle severe pain. The only way you should take them is by a prescription from your doctor.
Oxycodone is a medication give for severe pain. Dont listen to all the dumb asses who say its OxyContin. ITS NOT. it is the generic form of Percocet.
Hydrocodone is a fast-acting pain reliever for mild/severe pain that is often prescribed to take as needed for pain not surpassing a certain amount over a period of time, such as no more than one every 4-6 hours. Oxycontin is a time-released pain reliever for severe/chronic pain that is prescribed at certain intervals of time, such as every 8 hours. You take Oxycontin at given, prescribed intervals due to the time release.
Extremely addictive... more addictive than any other drug. Prescription or otherwise. More pure than Heroin... Do not take unless you have severe to very severe pain.
