Super-ORS are the special types of ORS which instead of mono-sugars contain more complex sugars. They may be Food- based ( as rice-based ) or otherwise be starch-free(Glycine / alanine based or Glucose polymer based).
Rice- based ORS emerged a clear favourite after 10 years of studies at the International Cholera and Diarrhoeal Diseases Research Centre in Bangladesh. Studies in developing countries, however, have revealed recently that some 66.5 % of children don't completely absorb rice starch, because of low availability of pancreatic amylase and prolonged mucosal injury of small intestine resulting from sub-clinical enteric infections in developing countries. However, long and short polymers of glucose derived by enzymatic hydrolysis of rice are digested and absorbed easily. The reason is that high levels of glucose- amylase activity are present in the entire length of the small intestine, even in neonates, and this enzyme it is more resistant to mucosal injury than enzymes hydrolyzing sucrose and lactose.
The conventional ORS (which contains electrolytes and glucose) do not decrease stool frequency, decrease stool volume nor change duration of diarrhea. Thus stool output, purging rate and duration of diarrhea are not reduced. On the contrary, ORS containing long and short chain glucose polymers exhibit such advantages..
Advantages of Super-ORS
Provides rehydration.
Helps in reducing the stool output, frequency of stools and duration of diarrhea.
Furnishes increased amount of calories (180 kcal/ litre)
Contributes to weight gain, as it provides additional nutrition (thus is especially useful for those who are malnourished).
With gradual release of glucose, prevents secondary disaccharide intolerance.
Because of a short shelf-life (not exceeding 10 hours), super-ORS should be freshly prepared 2-3 times a day, which some mothers find troublesome. On the contrary, ORS can be used over 24 hours of mixing.
The population of Ors is 660.
safe ORS
The area of Ors is 17.76 square kilometers.
Miguel Ors was born on August 31, 1928, in Barcelona, Spain.
ORS-bicarbonate and ORS-citrate medication is used to treat diarrhea and electrolyte depletion. The medication is currently not commercially available in Canada and in the United States.
Francisco Ors died on July 25, 2013, in Zaragoza, Aragn, Spain.
