Gas welding basically used for weaker joints(in sheets) and arc welding for stronger one(plates).

mobile welding (not in a shop)is the ideal time for arc welding . gas welding is the way to go as far as production is concerned , but requires environment with little air circulation or wind , plus gas bottle , machine , and a short lead , which makes it ideal for shop work

answer

Gas welding - generally use for welding of thin plates/pipes. Less heat input and less likely to burn off the edge of the plates (undercut). It is a more expensive process because of gas shielding.

Arc welding - use for thicker plates usually with larger size electrodes. Higher weld production rate. Shielding by means of electrode coating.

Both processes can meet the required mechanical properties usually

TIG's heat is generated by electricity, or in laymen's terms an arc.

Gas welding's heat is generated by a fuel gas and an oxidizing gas, or in laymen's terms a flame.

What is the principle of tig welding?

Tungsten Inert Gas (orTIG) welding is also referred to as GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) and by the term Heliarc® which was the Linde Company's trade name for the TIG process when it was originally introduced. The welding arc is started with a sharply pointed tungsten electrode shielded by inert gas. A separate filler rod is fed manually into the weld puddle in much the same way as is done when gas welding. The process is well suited for aluminum.

In which process is the electrode used in welding?

Manual Metal Arc Welding(MMAW) Also GTAW (TIG) and GMAW (MIG) The MIG wire carries electric current so it is considered the electrode. TIG the Tungsten is considered an electrode.

What is MMA welding?

MMA stands for manual Metal Arc welding. In short "arc welding" and can be used in either AC or DC mode. Usually incorperated with Mig, Tig and plasma cutters for arc welding machines as an optional extra. submitted by Ken.Benson - Clarke. sales@edacomputers.co.uk from saffon walden, essex, uk.

What is balance welding?

When welding on AC on a TIG welder you have to option to adjust how your arc passes from your torch to your metal and vice versa. This allows you to clawed your puddle clean of contaminants or burn your weld deeper while welding. When set on balanced, the arc equally passes in both directions.

What are the three types of machines used in manual metal arc welding?

I am not sure your question is clear enough but here I go... Stick Arc Welding (AC or DC), MIG (Metal Inert Gas) and TIG (Tunsten Inter Gas). All three of these are the basic metal welding machines.

What makes tig welding flame?

It is not a flame. Is is an arc (electricity forced to jump a gap).

Can you tig weld with a miller thunder bolt 230amp welder?

Is this a gasoline or diesel powered unit? If so the lag time between striking an arc and establishing an arc makes it difficult to use for TIG. If not, any DC supply can be set up for TIG. Not for aluminum... Check with your welding supplier.

What is internal bore welding?

IBW is the arc welding process of forming a coalescence of two workpieces(stube or pipe) internally by using tig welding.

tungsten inert gas metal inert gas now refered to as gmaw gas metal arc welding.

Explain the principle behind arc welding.?

Arc welding uses an electrical current to create enough heat to melt metal. Any type of welding that uses an electric arc is technically arc welding. However, most people use the term 'arc welding' to mean shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), or 'stick welding'. SMAW, MIG, and flux core wire welding use the filler metal as both electrode and filler; TIG welding uses an electric arc to heat the base metal and a separate filler rod to add metal to the weld.

What type of welding can you do with an ac welding machine?

You can do Shielded Metal Arc Welding (stick) with an appropriate electrode. If the machine has a high frequency arc stabilizer then you can also TIG (tungsten inert gas) weld aluminum. Wire feed processes require a DC machine

What is a base metal in welding?

A base metal is also called the Parent metal. It is that metal in the welding practice that has been cut by the various forms of cutting, then prepared and is to be welded. Welding is performed to join one section of the base metal to another section of base metal by means of the various welding processes, e.g. SMAW(Shielded Metal Arc Welding) where welding welding rods are used, GTAW(Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) where Tig wire is used, FCAW(Flux Cored Arc Welding) etc. The welding rods, the TIG wires etc are called the filler metals, for they fill the weld gaps by depositing their molten-state weld metals.
