Well base timing is 10*. but you make sure you check it with the SPOUT out(its the little plug about 6 inches down from the dist. on the same wiring loom.make sure that before you start it that the mark on the crank is at the 0* mark and the cam pulley is at the middle mark on the plastic shroud (at about the 5 o'clock position) and the rotor in side the dist is pointing to the number 1 spark plug wire (from driver side its the bottom right) for a reference turboford.org and murkurencyclopedia are priceless tools of info.
hope that helps some .Branson.

When having the number 23 timing it by the letter U and subtracting it by T would be 23. This is a math problem.

According to a website I was looking at : For a 1996 Ford Thunderbird : 3.8 liter V6 ( 17 city / 24 highway ) 4.6 liter V8 ( 15 city / 23 highway ) Miles per U.S. gallon
100 x 23 = 2300 (If timing by 10, simply add a zero. If by 100, add two zeroes.)
A healthy 7.3L Powerstroke should run at around 23 p.s.i.
