The best way to memorize places is by using a map. Getting a good mental image of something helps you to remember it much better, and a map is a good , easy to understand image.
If you are trying to memorize a large list of place names, divide your map into smaller areas and learn the places in that area first.
Try making flash cards with the name of the place on one side and the location or shape of the area on the other side. Quiz yourself or have someone else help you until you can remember them correctly.
