8mm is the socket size. Try and find a 6 point socket if you can, instead of a 12 point. Those little boogers round off very easily. I'm surprised GM didn't engineer a larger, stronger bolt for that application.

Look for a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose
the thermostat is to the right of the engine, mounted on the right side of the cylinder head. you need a 10 millimeter socket to remove the three mounting bolts. torque for the bolts during reassembly is 7.5 ft. lbs. the housing for the thermostat is a rounded or dome shaped aluminum piece with an upper radiator hose attached to the right of the housing.
Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine block. The thermostat is inside the housing where the radiator hose connects to the block.

loosen the bottom bolt with a 13 mm swival head socket, do not remove the bolt all the way, take out the top one and the thermostat housing will slide out and then remove the thermostat.
