Many, including myself, would say it's a tense of 'forbidden' as a verb.

Another answer is that it is a "portmanteau" word - a word made up of two or more words. In this case, it comes from foreboding: an omen or premonition, usually of something bad, and verboten: the past participle of the German word verbieten, meaning forbidden. Some friends of mine used this as the name of our haunted house for about 10 years.
