Natural disasters are caused by natural events, often relating to weather or geologic forces, which are generally beyond human control. Examples include tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and most floods.

Human disasters are the result of human actions and practices and may be intentional or unintentional. Examples include war, terrorist attacks, plane crashes, spills and leaks of oil or hazardous materials, and many fires.

Some disasters are mixed, having both natural and human causes. It often involves a natural disaster being greatly exacerbated by conditions created by humans. One classic examples would be the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. It started with a severe drought in the central and southwestern United States, a natural event. Poor farming practices, however, made it so that failed crops exposed loose soil broken up by plows, resulting in severe soil erosion and massive dust storms.

Well a disaster is something that people have seen before. and hazards are something that could occur.

Answer:

A hazard is related to terms like potential, chance, odds. Disaster is related to words like event, happening, outcome.

In terms of dice (this is a bit of a joke as the word hazard comes from the Arabic "al azzahr" or the Persian "zar" meaning one of a pair of dice) the hazard is that you will roll Snake eyes (two 1's) one time in 12 and lose. The disaster is when you actually roll the combination.

The potential of thunderstorms an lightning, earthquakes and floods are hazards. Having these events in a manner that causes problems is the disaster.

The difference between a natural disaster and a manmade disaster is that a human caused the disaster and a natural disaster is caused by nature. For example a tornado is a natural disaster because nature was behind it but for instance bombing was done by arsonists which are humans so that is classified as a man made disaster.

A natural disaster is a naturally occurring event, such as an earthquake, flood or blizzard. An environmental disaster occurs when the environment is damaged to the point that it can no longer sustain its natural ecosystems.

A natural disaster, like Hurricane Katrina, can cause an environmental disaster, but many are man-made. A major oil spill is an example of a man-made environmental disaster.
