Artisans create objects with a sense of utility; they are carpenters or potters who make goods for a variety of people. Their work can have beauty or artistic merit.

Artists create from the point of view of imposing their vision on to the materials. They may make things that can be used but the work is one of creativity.

You will also find a true artist will do excellent work where as a craftsman will do good work. Answer An artist may visualize and design from a thought or vision.

A craftsman builds from a picture or drawing.

The two were considered synonymous for many years, and quite possibly in the present day and age. The only real difference is that Craftsmen create objects that are functional as well as creative, whereas artists create objects that are purely aesthetic ie: have no purpose other than their appearance, or 'Art for Art's sake'. Skill and ability have nothing to do with it. An example of a craft could include a beautifully designed table or a dress. An example of art would be a painting or sculpture. Actually, there is such a thing as 'functional art', which is generally considered to be different from carft.Functional art includes crafts, but also includes art such as paintings which record historical events.

An artist is a painter,

another kind of artist writes and produces songs.

Answer 2:

An artist is correct, whereas a artist is wrong.

Yes, it's just about grammar. Since "artist" starts with a vowel, it automatically has to start with an "an".
