A meteor is seen as it gets hot passing through the Earth's atmosphere. An asteroid is a small body of frozen gasses rock and debris left over the from the creation of the Solar System. There are 100s of thousands of asteroids. If an asteroid enters the Earth's atmosphere, it is called a meteor. Most of the larger ones orbit beyond Mars. A comet is a frozen ball of gas and debris that orbits close to the Sun. It is seen as the solar wind interacts with the comet and warms the frozen gases and debris, and then blows them off the body of the Comet. The heavier particles continue in an orbit similar to the comet's. the lighter particles are blown away from the comet and move away from the Sun. The larger particles continue to orbit around the Sun. When the Earth passes through that orbit there is a meteor shower as the particles enter the Earth's atmosphere. They are seen as meteors.
