Vitamin minerals are rock minerals. Calcium (calcite), iron, zinc, and phosphorous, along with many others, are all found as natural minerals. They may be sterylized and/or ground into a powder, but they are the same minerals.

A mineral is a naturally occurring substance formed through geological processes that has a characteristic chemical composition, a highly ordered atomic structure and specific physical properties.

A rock, by comparison, is an aggregate of minerals and need not have a specific chemical composition.
A rock is made up of many minerals. Sometimes the composition is uniform, such as 100% quartz [SiO2] in a sandstone (though to find such a uniform composition is very rare, often other minerals are present such as feldspars and other lithics). Granite is chiefly made up of the minerals quartz, mica (biotite and muscovite) and at least one type of feldspar.
Rocks are composed of combinations of minerals.

Simply that rocks are composed of minerals. I was taught to think of a rock like a cake...and minerals as the ingredients. You use different ingredients to make different cakes, right?
