It depends on which rim you want to visit.

If you want to visit the SOUTH RIM, which is more accessible to Phoenix, it is 220 miles from Phoenix taking this route:

  1. Take I-17 NORTH (towards FLAGSTAFF), from Phoenix, to U.S. 89A NORTH to FLAGSTAFF and Grand Canyon @ END I-17 in Flagstaff.
  2. Take U.S. 89A NORTH into Flagstaff, where you will turn left onto U.S. 180 WEST towards the GRAND CANYON.
  3. Take U.S. 180 WEST to Grand Canyon National Park (South Rim).

If you want to visit the NORTH RIM, it is a longer distance from Phoenix, it is 350 miles taking this route:

  1. Take I-17 NORTH (towards FLAGSTAFF), from Phoenix, to I-40 EAST to Albuquerque off EXIT 340A in Flagstaff.
  2. Take I-40 EAST, around Flagstaff, to U.S. 89 NORTH to PAGE off EXIT 201.
  3. Take U.S. 89 NORTH to U.S. 89A (not the same one as in Flagstaff) towards the GRAND CANYON (NORTH RIM).
