This is highly dependent on the breed of the cow (referring to mature female bovines that have had at least one or two calves). An average cow is about 5 to 6 feet tall at the shoulder, with average weight being around 1500 lbs.

Generally dairy cattle are a little taller than beef cattle. For example, Holsteins average around 6 to 7 feet in height and weigh around 1300 to 1500 lbs, whereas an Angus cow averages over 4 to 6 feet in height and average around 1200 to 1400 lbs.

However there are exceptions, such as with Chianina, Charolais, Limousin, Marchigiana and Maine Anjou beef cattle, which all average around 6 to 7 feet in height, with Chianinas reaching over 7 feet more often than not. A Chinianina cow will also often weigh over 2000 lbs. Some Angus breeders have also developed cows that will often exceed 1800 lbs in weigh and have cows standing over 6 feet in height.

So not only is height and weight dependent on breed, but also on genetics, such as the huge variations in the Angus breed in the United States.

This is heavily dependent on breed and gender. A Dexter cow (looks like a miniature black Angus with horns) may only stand 2.5 feet tall at the shoulder. In contrast, a mature Chianina bull may stand as tall as 8 feet at the shoulder.

The tallest breed of beef cattle, thus being the Chianina, can have a shoulder height of over 8 feet tall.

More moderate sized breeds have a height of 5 to 6 feet; some only up to 4 feet. Mini cattle only have a height of up to 3 feet at the shoulder.
