Hera, daughter of Cronus and Rhea, having been born on the island of Samos, or some say, at Argos, was brought up in Arcardia by Temenus, son of Pelagsgus. The Seasons were her nurses. After banishing their father Cronus, Hera's twin brother Zeus sought her out at Cnossus in Crete or, some say, Mount Thornax (now called Cuckoo Mountain) in Argolis, where he courted her, at first unsuccessfully. She took pity on him only when he adopted the disguise of a bedraggled cuckoo, and tenderly warmed him in her bosom. There he at once resumed his true form and ravished her, so that she was shamed into marrying him. All the gods brought gifts to the wedding; notably Mother Earth gave Hera a tree with golden apples, which was later guarded by the Hesperides in Hera's orchard on Mount Atlas. She and Zeus spent their wedding night on Samos, and it lasted three hundred years. Hera bathes regularly in the spring of Canathus, near Argos, and thus renews her virginity. To Hera and Zeus were born the deities Ares, Hephaestus, and Hebe, though some say that Ares and his twin sister Eris were conceived when Hera touched a certain flower, and Hebe when she touched a lettuce, and that Hephaestus also was her parthenogenous child - a wonder he would not believe until he had imprisoned her in a mechanical chair with arms that folded about the sitter, thus forcing her to swear by the River Styx that she did not lie. Others say Hephaestus was her son by Talos, the nephew of Daedalus. Hera was equal to Zeus in one thing alone: that she still could bestow the gift of prophecy on any man or beast she pleased. Hera did many things to humiliate Zeus because of his infidelities. She was a very jealous goddess and would do almost anything to have her revenge if she was scorned. She was mischeivous and is known to meddle with a lot of deities, nyphs, and mortals in her time. She was the supreme goddes of Olympia and was worshipped heartly by mothers.
Okay, so first off, Hera was the queen of heaven and married to Zeus. Though she was the protector of marriage, she had little success in limiting Zeus's affairs. She is often portrayed as an angry and jealous wife of Zeus and his many lovers.
Now that that's done, here are the stories.
Zeus changed his lover Io into a white heifer in order to hide the affair from Hera. Hera, aware of the disguise, asked Zeus for the heifer as a gift. Zeus was obligated to give the heifer to her. She placed the heifer under guard of a monster with one hundred eyes. After Zeus learned of this, he sent Hermes to kill the monster and set Io free. When Io was set free, Hera sent a fly to constantly bite her in her cow form. Eventually Io had to beg for Hera's forgiveness and was returned to her human form.
Another story about Hera's anger toward Zeus's offspring was about her treatment of Hercules, Zeus's son by Alcmene. Hera attacked Hercules by sending serpents to kill him. Later she drove him into a fir of madness that caused him to kill his own wife and children.
One interesting thing about Hera, the ancient pre-Hellenic Earth Mother Goddess, is this: when the conquering patriarchal Greeks imposed their principal god, the Sky Father Zeus, upon her people, her cult was itself so strong that the Greeks had to accept her as Zeus's wife and sister. The tales of their quarrels and intrigues may reflect the period before the two cults were reconciled.
she was known as the mother of god and had her briths at home and married her brother
The most famous story is that of the labors of Hercules. Hera sets his tasks as punishment.
She had 4 or more kids.
Io. who was a princess of Argos.
He is the son of Hera and Zeus. When he was born Hera threw him off a mountain because he was ugly and Hera wanted a perfect family. As he grew up he married Aphrodite. Aphrodite cheated on him with Ares.
the most interesting thing that I've learned about the story is how to let go of things/person we want/love most...
Ya, I agree that this story does not have breathless adventure and exciting action. The fondness of riding horse of Mourad and his cousin, riding the horse before the dawn and the character of Uncle Khosrove make this story interesting.
The indirect object is 'the class'; the direct object is 'story'. Mrs. B. reads story.
