Since, Fuels= Carbon + Hydrogen (i.e Hydrocarbons)

i) Longer the Carbon Chain in the Compound, Higher will be Knock.

ii) Straighter the Carbon chain again higher will be knocking.

iii) addition of Methyl Group as a side chain in Hydrocarbon decreases the Knock tendency.

iv) More closer and compact the Carbon structure, lesser is the Knock tendency.

From above points we can conclude that,

  1. Propane (C3H8) has lesser knock tendency than Butane (C4H10)
  2. Iso-Butane has lesser knock tendency than n-Butane
  3. Alcohols (especially Methanol & Ethanol) are two most promising future fuels with high octane no. i.e very less knock tendency.

What is the chemical symbol for fuel?

A fuel is a complex mixture of many components; no chemical symbol. For methane gas the chemical formula is CH4.

What can fuel the chemical reactions in a cell?

chemical energy

Would burning diesel fuel be a chemical change?

Yes, chemical reaction.

Is there any chemical substance which act as a fuel?

All fuels are chemical substances.

When carbon dioxide comes from the fuel of the car is it a physical or chemical change?

chemical change

How is energy transferred in a furnace?

Most furnaces burn some kind of fuel. The fuel (wood, oil, coal, etc) contains chemical energy bound up in its molecular structure. Oxygen from the air is combined with the fuel and breaks old chemical bonds to form new chemical bonds with less energy. The extra energy is released as heat and light.

Sign of knock sensor going bad?

the only sign is if it goes bad it should trigger the check engine light, you wont notice loss in peformance in engine. all it does is when there is a knock in a cylinder, from bad fuel, it leans back on fuel to stop the knock.

Is fuel exploding a chemical or physical change?

Fuel exploding is a violent Chemical Reaction when fuel is reacted with atmospheric oxygen.

What is the function of a knock sensor on a 2000 mercury villager?

the knock sensor monitors preignition, spark knock and sends signal to pcm,pcm responds by adjusting ignition timing and fuel timing until knock is gone.

What is the octane of jet fuel?

Jet fuel is kerosene, about the same stuff as diesel. Octane is a number that measures anti-knock properties of fuels. Diesels knock--that's how they work. Jets don't have enough compression to knock. Jet and diesel fuels would measure typically 15-25 "octane anti-knock". Sort of....

What is the type of energy in fuels?

That is called chemical energy - assuming conventional fuel. Nuclear fuel has nuclear energy.

Is burning of fuel in a cutting torch a chemical reaction?

Yes, burning of fuel is always a chemical reaction.

What does a knock sencor do?

A knock sensor listens for the 'knock' (or pinking), that shows that the fuel is exploding, rather than burning. Via the engine management computer, it retards the timing of the spark, until the knocking stops. 'Knocking' can damage valves and piston crowns, if allowed to continue. A knock sensor allows different grades of fuel to be used, without damaging the engine.

What happens if you put regular unleaded fuel in a Volkswagen Passat the takes premium fuel?

That car has a knock sensor, so you won't destroy it. It will, however, run terrible because the timing's so retarded by the knock sensor.

What is the function of the knock sensor on the Lexus ES 300?

The knock sensor allows the computer to adjust the engine timing for maximum advance and fuel economy.
