In terms of viewership during their original runs, Next Generation was by far the most popular of the series. By its second season it was the highest-rated syndicated show (of any genre) on the air. I don't know which one is, but my favorite is the original. As should yours be.

The first episode of Star Trek the original series was aired in 1966 and was filmed in colour. However most people watching the episode at the time had B&W TV's. This is probibly where the cconfusion lies.
