No, there is no pledge of allegiance in France. The closest thing is a statement, which is not even compulsory, for foreigners who are given French citizenship.

I know of only one country which indulges in this strange rite.

I know of only one country that has a national pledge, and that is the USA. It may surprise you to know that many of the rest of us find the idea of the pledge, especially in schools, abhorrent and propagandist.
