the setting in which the great gatsby is set in is in the 1920's or the 'Roaring Twenties' this was just after the first world war and people had different views on life after their experiences in the war. The book is set in New York City, where there are two 'eggs' called "west egg" and "east egg" this is because these land masses are shaped like eggs, these 'eggs' are separated by courtesy bay. West egg is for the 'New Money' and east egg is for the 'Old Money' . another setting in the book is the Valley of Ashes, this is a dull, dark, miserable place and is where poor people live, like Wilson. in the Valley of Ashes there is a big billboard of T.J Eckleberg, which could be interpreted as god overlooking and guiding the people of the Valley of Ashes. Finally the last setting is the city where Tom and Myrtles apartment is. This is where they go when they want to be with each other.

"The Great Gatsby" is set in the 1920s in Long Island, New York, specifically in the fictional town of West Egg and the adjacent East Egg. The story unfolds amidst the opulence and glamour of the Jazz Age, reflecting the excesses and moral decay of the time.
