my idea of the theme point in this particular poem by Walt Whitman would be that it is taking place on a pirate ship and that a young woman's father, also known as the captain, has just been to battle with another ship and he is now dying. The young woman tries to help out her beloved father by doing anything and everything that she can within her power. my veiwtone would be a excruciating saddening one in which this is a poem of an old captain of a pirate ship and at the same time a reliable father to a young woman, who also appears on the ship from time to time. my values of this well written poem by Walt Whitman is that of joy and happiness that the captain's daughter is so willing to keep her father alive and well. It is to my pleasure that such a person would be wanting to help one another in their time of need instead of doing the same unto the person that did the trial to the other person's loved one. The poem could also be taken as a interpretation on Lincolns assassination.

Whitman's use of first-person point of view in "Song of Myself" creates a sense of intimacy and connection between the speaker and the reader, making it easier to relate to the poem on a personal level. This intimate perspective allows Whitman to explore universal themes of identity, humanity, and the interconnectedness of all living beings.
