value depends on need
I agree with the above statement. Assuming you have a nice woodsman and the right box comes along, it would be worth a lot more. The same is true with most old gun boxes as colt single actions. From experience, it appears a gun in the box with papers is worth10 to 20% more than without. Plus you can make a better story to go along with the gun!!!!!!!!!!!!! Serial numbers are usually written on the box ends and often else where by the original dealers, thus this fact and condition would effect the price as you want the box to add to the gun, not detract.
Just my 10 cents worth. al
Average model- about $500. Some scarce models of the Woodsman, in excellent condition, would bring twice that.
Don't know value, but woodsman #6553 was produced in 1919.
go to: gunsamerica.com / or / gunbroker.com look up the colt woodsman pistol and compare condition and price of pistol being sold to your pistol.................
You cannot value firearms without reference to their condition. No picture, no answer. The Woodsman can be a fairly valuable piece but there are many many variations.
Check out Auction Arms, Gun Broker and Guns America. Condition is everything and original box, papers, etc. add value.
