In regard to Christianity these are two ways that people refer to the process of discipleship and there is a bit of a difference. Training like anywhere else is often seen as the passing on of skills and abilities. Mentoring is often seen as teaching someone about the lifestyle of the calling they are pursuing.

As a youth pastor I train all of my leaders to be able to do certain things. Talk easily to teens, lead them through The Bible and things of that nature.

I mentor a smaller number of my leaders and in that I work on deeper issues such as attitude, theology, and prayer time.
