If you are asking about the adult disease shingles, in which an adult suddenly develops a very painful rash over part of the torso, the disease does not give you the virus. You originally caught the virus (chickenpox) as a child, and it lay dormant in your nerves until something caused to flare back up. When it flares back up, this is when you get the condition called shingles.
