A video game addiction happens when a person puts a video game before anything else in the world. This can happen in a number of ways, a person doesn't know when to quit and do something else, a person really likes a video game (way to much), that is just a couple of ways (there is probably an unlimited amount of ways someone can get addicted).
Here is a number of way to stop the addiction:
1. Realise that you should do something else (like play a game of catch).
2. Make some sort of intervention (a group of people telling a person that they have a problem and they need to stop), but I would only do that in EXTREME cases.
3. Take Video Games away from the person (or people), so that they can't play the video game (it might also help if you take a computer away from them, because they can play on-line games, and torrent games).
That is just a number of ways to stop them from being an addict (you could think of some way on your own, its not that think of ways to stop....unless you are the addict).
P.S. There is a difference between being an addict and playing a lot of video games.
The previous answer to this question was:
"It is like crack addiction but with video games. You need to play everyday or else you could die from a lack of a certain chemical that your brain releases when you play video games. It is a serious problem that has no cure. I have it."
I am certain that this was posted by someone who had done little to no research on the actual topic of video game addiction, or how the chemical released into the brain (dopamine) effects you.
Video game addiction is a serious problem, but it isn't an officially diagnosed disorder. Video game "addiction" is a behavioral addiction that describes compulsive use of electronics such as video games. ALSO, a certain specialized chemical isn't released into your brain. Test have shown that when playing video games the amount of dopamine released into your brain doubles. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter found in the brain that regulates the reward centers in the brain. Functioning much like a beta endorphin, when your brain receives a more than average dose of dopamine you get a sense of achievement and fulfillment, which is the mine reason people are so easily "addicted" to games. They crave the way they feel after defeating that final boss, or completing the mission.
Because if u find a game u really like u just play it and play it and play it. Also most video games give u a challenge and it makes u hooked on it til u just beat it. its like im not leaving till i beat this game. and to go down to the wire video games are just flat out fun. there not just neardy they can be so awesome.
There are multiple ways. You get addicted when you find gaming more important than every day life. Best way to not get addicted is setting a maximum amount of time that you will play before you start and not to cross that fixed amount of time. (1 or two hours)
All addictions are considered a psychological problem.
You can determine if playing video games has become an addiction when it begins to get in the way of your other necessary activities, e.g. you get to school/work late because you cannot stop playing, you frequently miss dates, you stop taking care of your personal hygiene, you stop eating or eat a lot less (going from eating 3 meals a day to just 1 meal because you spend so much time playing).
If you consider yourself addicted, seeking advice from a professional is reccommended. I've been there myself !
It depends; you become addicted to the game if you really like it and want to keep playing, but you don't become addicted in general
