Most farmed calves actually drink milk replacer so that the mothers can be farmed for the dairy milk that humans choose to consume. This also means the calves are often separated from their mothers at a very early age.
Depending on the calf's age, a BABY calf will drink the milk that the mother will supply. An 'older' calf will begin to eat grass and start to drink water as a substitute to the mother's milk!
Unpasteurized cow's milk (i.e. straight from the udder) or packaged milk replacer you can purchase from your vet or a feed store. DO NOT feed soy milk replacer!
Calves do not eat meat. They are herbivores just like their mothers (cows) and fathers (bulls) are.
They drink milk as young animals. They will drink some water as well.
