According to what I've read on people handling them, they can be mean and bite but not always. According to Maori folklore, it can be fiercely independent, a little arrogant or evasive, and has problems with family members (Ngarara/Mango). But can also be seen as a symbol of good luck, or gaurding the dead. Maori bury lizards near houses of learning or important buildings. DC has a superhero named Tuatara that is assertive but kind of distant, but very defensive of friends (power: see into future with 3rd eye.) Finally, in memebase the Tuatara is a morbidly depressed, suicidal girl who will hold back on her self harm and suicide thoughts our of consideration for family, and children who are truly suffering in other parts of the world. So underneath the negativity and self harm, she does care about others just enough to hold back.
