A mental disorder is defined by psychological symptoms some of which are called psychopathological phenomena.
A of research has been dine and more is still needed and on-going about anorexia as a mental disorder. There are no set rules or standards, as each individual's mental state can vary. But some general common traits research has shown is that those who suffer from anorexia will also suffer from other mental disorder, mostly commonly depression, OCD, and body dimorphic disorder (BDD). Many anorexics tend to isolate themselves, and many also have perfectionistic personalities. A large percentage also abuse alcohol, drugs, or cigarettes. Studies are looking into possible relations between the mental states of anorexia and the mental state of addiction.
That is a interesting question. The South Carolina Mental Health Department states that 1 out of 200 Americans suffer from some type of eating disorder making it a total of over 8 million Americans.
Some of the most common types of mental disorder include: bipolar, depression, obsessive compulsion disorder, anorexia nervosa, bulimia, etc. Having a mental disorder does not necessarily mean that someone is classified as retarded.
About one in every four adults in the US is diagnosed with a mental illness. Some may not be as serious as others however. Its approximately 26.2% total of the US population over age 18 to have any sort of mental illness. However for serious mental illness the number is drastically lower. It is about one in every seventeen adults or approximately 6%. Mental Disorders are also the leading cause of disability here in the US and also in Canada. In addition, about 45% of those with mental disorders also has meet a criteria for a second mental illness. For example, Depression and an Anxiety Disorder would be two different mental illnesses and be part of that 45%. Hope this answers your question. Many who suffer anxiety have a mentall illness such as depression, bi-polar disorder, or schizophrenia. This in no way, however, means that you do have a mental illness. Some people suffer from extreme anxiety, but are otherwise completely normal. If you feel something is wrong, I advise you to talk to your doctor.

Nobody knows exactly. People who are very creative do seem to be more likely to suffer from mental disorders. However, there is no way to tell if the disorder causes the creativity or vice versa. There does seem to be some sort of connection.
