The presence of organisms played a crucial role in shaping Earth's atmosphere. An organism must interact with the environment, taking in and producing material to sustain life. Early organisms took in carbon dioxide and produced sea sediment.

Oxygen did not exist in the atmosphere until about 2.4 billion years ago. Living organisms have increased the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. Two main processes have been responsible for changes in the earth's atmosphere. Plants use carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen. The second atmospheric altering process comes from volcanic eruptions and the sulfur they omit. The fast development of animals came about as a result of the increased oxygen in the atmosphere.

This depends on the change you are thinking of. But all organisms affect the atmosphere. Plants use sunlight to combine carbon dioxide and water in order to create glucose and oxygen. This oxygen is released in to the air atmosphere. Animals release carbon dioxide into the air atmosphere after cellular respiration. This is a theory and is not to be used as fact but it is thought that dinosaurs released so much methane (farting) that they caused global heating and died. Hope this is helps. When organisms began using photosynthesis what gas was added to the atmosphere as a result?

Oxygen is one of the products of photosynthesis and is the gas that rose in abundance in the atmosphere due to the process of photosynthesis.

How has the atmosphere changed over the last 4.5 billion years?

Due to photosynthesising, single celled organisms, the atmosphere now has much more oxygen in it. this is possibly the most important change as with out we would exist. The atmosphere originally had much more carbon-dioxide and made the planet so hot humans would not be able to survive.

How are dogs not organisms?

A dog is an organism due to the fact that it is a living thing. A dog can respond to external and internal stimuli, reproduce, grow ,and develop.

Are living organisms open or closed systems?

Organisms are open systems due to the fact that they maintain a steady state. They exchange both matter and energy with their surroundings.

How does burning fossil fuels affect the makeup of gases in the atmosphere?

The overall change in our atmosphere has been about 0.009% since 1800. Most of this change is due to increases in carbon dioxide which now make up about 0.038% of our atmosphere. Much of the rest is due to increases in the level of methane, which has seen a 1 ppm increase.

Do stalagmites and stalactites have cells?

No. Only living organisms have cells. Although stalagmites and stalactites appear to grow, it is not due to the reproduction of cells or living organisms. Stalagmites and stalactites are composed of atoms which are connected into molecules. They are made of the same things as any other rock.

Why do people leave or move into Hawaii?
