What percent of the world's population owns a television?
About 20% of the world's population owns a television--that is to say, there is about one television for every five people on Earth. The number of 20% is assuming only one person owns one television, which usually doesn't happen.

No Direct TV is owned by Direct TV Group and is a publicly tradedcompany. There stock symbol is DTV and they are traded on the NewYork Stock Exchange. Here is were it gets a little tricky..... NewsCorporation had owned a 39% stake in Direct TV Group and in 2006agreed to sell its shares of Direct TV …Group to Liberty Media. Inreturn Liberty Media agreed to sell its shares of News Corp back toNews Corporation allowing Rupert Murdoch and family increasedcontrol of New Corporation. AT&T does have a strategicpartnership with a sattelite company but that company is DishNetwork. There have been rumors that AT&T may want to buyoutDish Network but nothing has happened to this point. AT&T isworking hard to roll out there own Television service but theinfrastructure takes time to develop and even then there will belarge portions of the country (rural) that will not have the fiberoptics nessesary for television. This has been the reasoning behindany suspected buyout of a sattelite company. It would allowAT&T to offer the "triple play" package of telephone, internet, and TV services. The general estimate is that in 1940 there were 2.3 billion peoplein the world. Considering that the Holocaust was responsible forthe deaths of 6 million Jews and 5 million Non-Jews (Romani, Slavs,Dissidents, Jehovah's Witnesses, Homosexuals, Handicapped, andothers), 11 million / 2300 million = 0.47…8% of the world'spopulation. 2.5% of the worlds population are atheist but this figure is inaccurate since there are some regions of the world where it is a social stigma to be an atheist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_atheism About 2.01 % are atheist, about another 16% are non-religiousaccording to Wikipedia
Realistically, a figure lower than 750,000 seems be more reasonable for this page's listing. Some documents suggest that even the tabulation of 750,000 based on country-by-country/state-by-state organizationally-provided data is quite out of date. Internal documents suggest 100,000 active members --… which would easily yield an estimate of a total of 600,000 or more, including one-time members, lapsed members, and strong supporters. So it's not a high percent. (MORE)

There are approximately 600 million cars, passenger vans, SUVs and light trucks in the world today. Of those about 240 million are found in the United States. It is a little difficult to then do simple math and say there are 6.76 billion people in the world (according to the US Census Bureau) so …600 million / 6.76 billion = about 9% of the world owns a car. The reason is not all 600 million cars, passenger vans, SUVs and light trucks belong to private citizens. In that number you have taxis, police cars, commercially used vehicles like vans and pickup trucks for delivery services, SUVs and cars are used by fire departments, medical services, rental car fleets at airports around the world, even the world militaries use light passenger vehicles. One of the most effective weapons in warfare in Africa is Toyota pickup trucks with a machine gun bolted down in the bed. Likewise you have people who collect cars, and you have households in western nations where it is common to own more than one car. So the percentage of auto ownership globally is actually rather small, with a maximum of about 9%, but likely lower. A really interesting trend is in developing nations, especially Brazil, India and China. In 2008 China became the largest auto consuming country in the world, with its citizens buying more cars than people in the United States or Japan. Even more interesting, the number one importer in China is General Motors, with a similar marketshare in China as an importer that Toyota has in the United States. In countries like China, Brazil, and India, their population is pushing hard for a more western lifestyle, and they see the car as part of that lifestyle. China and India in particular are spending billions on highway infrastructure. Brazil is interesting as they have largely an ethanol based economy, with cars running largely on alcohol produced from sugarcane. That hasn't come without a price ecologically, namely the slashing and burning of rainforest to create sugarcane fields, and the dangers to the low paid workers who work those fields (this was highlighted well in National Geographic). However Brazil has proven you can build an extensive automtive infrastructure away from most fossil fuels. Given the shift in global economics we see today, it is highly unlikely, simply through sheer force of population and growing GDP, that the United States will ever return to the number one car economy in the world. The number of 240 million registered vehicles on the road here is actually down about 10 million vehicles in the last 12 months, as people have sold or taken their cars off the road, either due to environmental or economic reasons. It is actually very likely that the United States will drift to third or fifth place in auto consumption behind China and eventually India, and possibly Brazil, or Russia after the European economic situation stabilizes. This will have longer term a dramatic impact on choice of vehicles for people in the United States, how cars are sold, and what features they will have. Here in the United States you have roughly 160 million Americans who live in the 100 largest metro areas in the country. That means 140 million Americans still live in spread out suburban or rural areas, where public transit is impractical at best, and impossible in many cases (you're not going to be able to provide effective public transit to the citizens of Jefferson, South Dakota or Onalaska, Texas as examples). The elimination of a vehicle that provides personal transit in the United States, or other rural areas in the world is simply impossible until a better of safely and quickly moving people and their goods over distance door-to-door is created. In those metro areas a lot more could be done, and cities like Boston, New York and Philadelphia are great examples. However these cities benefit from infrastructure implemented 100 to 150 years ago, a strong rail network that foundationally was laid down during the Civil War, and public works projects like subways built at the beginning of the 20th century. The bottom line is the percentage of ownership will probably go up globally as India and China fight for world resources and their populations demand a middle class lifestyle, and many in western nations in suburban and rural settings still have a need for personal transit. First of all, "only" 20% of the world is huge. Islam is the second largest religion with 1.3 billion followers and the fastest growing. However, it isn't the number of Muslims that makes Allah great. Allah says in the Quran (cannot remember the exact aya right now) that one does not do Allah or I…slam a favor by converting. Allah also says that even if all men came together with the intention to harm or help Allah, they would not be able to do it. Allah is great by Himself. He doesn't need any one else to help Him. ~~~~~~~~~ Additionally, democracy does not make something great or weak. If that were the case than China would then become greater than America, simply because they had more people and supporters. This question is just a silly argument based on a silly premise. (MORE)

No political mass murderer has killed or "slew" alone. They were simply presiding over the government that allowed them to do such. While Adolf Hitler killed 10 to 20 million assorted people, and Josef Stalin 20 to 50 million, Mao Zedong is generally believed to have killed 100,000,000, the curre…nt record. But this was not 25% of the world's population. Nor in the 13th century, when Genghis Khan killed 2 and 1/2 million was that 25% of the world's population. If we attempt to blame one single Spanish explorer who may have sneezed with the 95% reduction in the Native American population, that still isn't 25% of what the total population of the world was. Pope Gregory IX, in the late 13th century condemned cats as evil. The subsequent wholesale slaughtering of the cat population - and the greatly increased rat population, is held to be a factor in the deaths of about 25 million during the bubonic plague. But 33% of Europe dead, doesn't equal 25% of the world. In short, I can't find any credible data to support...lol...I just realized while writing this, you are talking about Cain! Yes, if one takes the story in Genesis as literal, then Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel made up the total population of Earth, and so when Cain killed Abel, he "slew" 25%! I can't believe that the word "slew" didn't tip me off earlier! I'm impressed! (MORE)

First, have an idea for the program. There are many people who try to make their own TV program without an idea and it shows! Next, it needs a script or a shooting order. Before getting the camera out, know the type of shots you want. A good production will have a story board that sets out the shot…s. As you do this, think of the main shots you want but make sure you include some wide shots of the scene to introduce the scene. Cut aways are used to show things that an actor or presenter may be looking at for example. They are normally just a few seconds long but help to keep the story moving and retain interest. Think about shots that capture a town name, a street name or a direction sign. They can be used to tell the viewer the location without announcing it. A good director will have a full arsenal of shots that can be used to develop themes, add interest and keep the program flowing. Step three - work out a budget for the program. If you need props, or need to travel somewhere or even hire an actor or two, they all cost money. If you don't plan for the costs, it's likely that the production will never get completed. About two thirds of the way through the project is normally a good time to get out the camera. If you can, use it on a tripod. There's nothing worse than trying to watch a shot when it is shaking around. Try to use a good tripod if you have one or can afford to buy it. If not, then use a cheap tripod. It's still better than hand holding for most shots. Work to a shooting schedule so you can get the right shots on the right days. Try to make the schedule flexible so you can change what you are doing if the weather is bad, for example. While the picture is very important, it is sound that carries most of the information. Make sure that the on board microphone will pick up good quality sound or try to use an external microphone. After the shooting has been done, it's time to load the content into a computer for editing. There are many free or low cost editors around and expensive editors will not work any better in most cases. Almost all editors have 100 effects or more. Pick out at least 97 of those effects and DO NOT use them. Overusing special effects, wipes (transitions from one shot to another) and wacky titles ruin the best ideas. Remeber that the program should entertain or inform, not make a viewer feel slightly seasick because of intrusive effects. If you have got that far, add the end credits to the program. This is your chance to have your own name on TV as the director, cameraman or editor. The final step is to get it aired. The Internet is a great way to publish it because it costs nothing to do it. You might also want to think about approaching community channels or public access channels. From your own computer you can also produce DVDs for distribution. All good movies and programs needs just a small element of good luck as well. So... good luck with it. (MORE)

It is important to note, first that Islam is a religion, but Islamism is something else. It is a political ideology whose goal is to bring the religious tenets of Islam into the daily functioning of a government and its laws. Islamism is a modern movement whose roots began contemporaneously with the… rise of Salafism in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Egypt. Islamism is not by nature violent or expansive. Many Islamist movements have concrete nationalistic goals such as the Islamists in power in Turkey. As a political philosophy, Islamism does not have practitioners, just as Communism and other political philosophies do not have practitioners. Islam represents roughly 23% of the world's population.
