natural selection
the role of genetics
Natural selection.
Mainly because they do not understand the process of evolution, or they refuse to believe it on fundamentalist grounds.
No, they are fundamental to the process of evolution. Mass extinctions are less common.
Charles Lyell explained this process with his theory of uniformitarianism.
Evolution doesn't have to be compatible with Faith. Evolution is a fact. It happened. A person can believe in God while also understanding that evolution is a very real scientific process.
Evolution is a process, theories of evolution are theories which explain that process
Darwin claimed it was the process of natural selection that drove evolution. However this is incomplete, without both a process that creates variation and the process of natural selection evolution could not work. There are many processes that create variation (e.g. mutation, crossover, transformation, infection, conjugation, polyploidy).
The first description of the process of genetic variation could probably be attributed to Charles Robert Darwin, who is the originator of the Theory of Evolution.
Charles Lyell
Charles Darwin was the man who produced the theory of evolution, which describes how species of organisms, by a process of natural selection, gradually evolve into other species.
Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace independently came up with evolution around about the same time. Darwin was the one to gain the first evidence for it, and suggested the process of natural selection as the driver of evolution.
